TWANG: Big Guitars, Big Sky, Big Night Out at York Racecourse Sunday 28 September
Get ready for a night of guitar-powered brilliance under the stars—TWANG, the headline event of The York Festival 2025, is set to ignite the Avon Valley on Sunday 28 September at the scenic York Racecourse.
This high-energy music experience features an outstanding line-up of acclaimed acts: Scarlet’s Way, Nathan Gaunt & The Sunset Riders, and Lucky Oceans’ New Darling Rangers—three groups united by exceptional musicianship and a deep love of guitar-driven sound.
Lucky Oceans’ New Darling Rangers bring a fresh take on Western Swing—the upbeat, high-octane style that earned Lucky two Grammy Awards as a founding member of Asleep at the Wheel. But this is no retro revival. Instead of classic swing standards, the band plays Western Australian songs—Lucky’s own humorous originals and David Milroy’s powerful tracks about the Pilbara, home of his Palkyu people. With rising stars Louis Rebeiro on sax and piano and Jon Knox-Matthews on guitar, the group brings explosive energy and unmistakable chemistry. Their debut performance supporting Pokey LaFarge at Freo.Social in April 2025 drew rave responses, and now they’re bringing that magic to York.
TWANG is more than just a concert—it’s the official launch of the Western Australian National Guitar Festival, a state-wide celebration of guitar culture set to debut in full in 2026. Curated by WA guitar legends Chris Gibbs and Craig Skelton, this year’s TWANG event offers an exciting preview of what’s to come.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Walwalling/Mt Bakewell, the evening promises a relaxed, festival-style atmosphere with food trucks, bars, chill-out zones, and a dance floor. Whether you’re dancing barefoot under the stars or lounging with a drink in hand, TWANG is your perfect spring night out.
