James Marriott Releases Brand New Single ‘Lovestruck’
Following a recent rapturous sold-out Brixton Academy headline show, and the announcement his third album, Warning Signs – out January 15th, 2027 via AWAL – AND huge world touring plans for 2027, James Marriott shows no signs of slowing down as he unveils his stunning new single ‘Lovestruck’ – out now.
A driving anthem that explodes into a joyous, technicolour chorus, ‘Lovestruck’ pairs darker, guitar-led verses with an explosive pop sensibility and a poise and venom that strikes to the heart. Capturing the bravado of falling for someone, only to discover they may already be taken, it balances lovestruck vulnerability with James’s ever-present lyrical bite. Sincere and unapologetic, it wears its heart firmly on its sleeve. Listen here.
“Lovestruck was a song I initially wrote a couple of years ago.” James details. “At first it was a heavier, electronic song with a synth bass; the chorus having “which one of you fuckers wants your bank robbed” screamed over it! The song was shelved for a while until I was listening to “1979” by the Smashing Pumpkins and I thought about revisiting it. The lyrics detail the bravado of meeting someone and the inflation of the ego in such a presentation, only for the possible partner to already be in a relationship with someone that the lead doesn’t think they should be with. I spent hours trying to replace “which one of you fuckers wants your bank robbed” but nothing ever hit me in the same way. It feels like a very sincere song to me.
The song also arrives with an official video, as James explains; “I wanted the song’s sincerity to be matched by the music video, learning how to dance (poorly) over a couple of days and creating a one-shot style music video separates it from the majority of other music videos I’ve done. I adore both the video and the song!” Watch the video here.
James recently returned with a huge, sold-out headline show at O2 Academy Brixton – announcing his new album live onstage to fervent excitement both in the room & online – just as he did for the Brixton show during his Reading Festival set this summer. New single ‘Burn Down The Disco’ has already received high praise and was crowned BBC Radio 1’s ‘Track Of The Week’ on release. Now, ‘Lovestruck’ is set to follow suit, having been confirmed as the station’s TOTW for this week.
Warning Signs was written and recorded during a period of extraordinary momentum. Following the UK Number 1 chart-topping success of his second album Don’t Tell The Dog and #17-charting 2023 debut Are We There Yet?, he’s spent the past year performing to increasingly large audiences across the UK and internationally – appearing at Reading & Leeds, Latitude, Lollapalooza & Electric Picnic, while taking his headline shows across the UK, Europe, North America and Australia – where he performed to a fully sold-out headline tour in October. He capped off an incredible 2025 with two sold-out shows at London’s Roundhouse, before returning to the studio to begin work on the album that would become Warning Signs.
Across its 11 tracks, Warning Signs charts the anticipation and the rush of new desires, through the dizzying heights of obsession, before tumbling headlong into the aftermath of a relationship ending. At the centre of it is James Marriott’s fascination with the split second when a song suddenly snaps into focus – the moment when everything clicks and “pop magic” happens.
“This album, it’s all ‘moment-based’ for me,” James explains. “For a song to latch into my head, there has to be a moment where I think, ‘Oh yeah, this is amazing.’ I can pick out something in every track on the record that gives me that feeling.”
‘California Rain’ earned Marriott his first Top 40 single, while his rapid rise has seen him receive support from BBC Radio 1, land covers with Dork, House of Solo, and Rock Sound, and receive Rock Sound’s Breakthrough Artist Award towards the end of 2025.
Warning Signs is James Marriott at his most engrossing: jagged, romantic, euphoric and emotionally unrestrained. As he takes his touring and live performances to yet another level, James is arriving as an artist who has never been more certain of who he is.
