Under the crisp November night sky, the Pioneer Women’s Memorial in Kings Park transforms into a shrine of sound, with thousands of fans gathering to celebrate the local-turned global talent of their Aussie Superstar. In the heart of Perth, the air hums with anticipation as happy families, couples enjoying a romantic night out, and hyped-up young fans come together, all ready for a night of unforgettable anthems.
The night is sparked by Perth locals Sam McGovern and Rachael Fahim as they deliver soothing vocals and an authentic stage presence to warm up the crowd. Their melodies set a relaxed, intimate tone, preparing the audience for the emotional journey ahead. LA-born heartthrob Daniel Seavey then takes the stage, switching effortlessly between instruments and raising the energy—literally—when he ditches his shirt and gets up close with the crowd, leaving fans breathless and amping up the excitement.
Amidst a storm of applause, Dean Lewis steps onto the stage, his magnetic vibe captivating the audience. With his breakout anthem “Be Alright” surpassing a billion streams and hits like “Waves” resonating deeply, Dean has cemented himself as one of Australia’s biggest pop stars. He’s won multiple ARIA awards and achieved worldwide acclaim, but tonight is proof of the real connection he’s built with fans. Down-to-earth and genuine, he’s as grounded as they come.
The opening chords of “Memories” ring out as the stage is bathed in soft blue hues. The lighting fittingly frames the moment, grounding Lewis’s performance in his Australian roots and sparking a wave of nostalgia that flows through every note.
“7 Minutes” shifts the energy, driving the crowd into full gear. A deeply personal track, Lewis shares a laugh with the audience as he reflects on a past relationship: “The first date I went on was fantastic. The second one was f***ed.” The song starts mellow but quickly builds as the crowd claps in sync, and Lewis strums his guitar from wild, unorthodox angles. At one point, he makes love hearts to the crowd, amplifying the bond between performer and audience. After the high-energy performance, he flashes a grin and says, “Four tours in, and this is the best crowd. Fantastic vibe here as well.”
The buzz from “All I Ever Wanted” lingers in the air as Lewis transitions smoothly into “Cold,” a standout track from his Epilogue album, released just last month. Before performing, he lightens the mood with a playful comment: “Hands up if you’re a happy couple in the crowd tonight.” The crowd responds with a roar as Lewis moves closer to the stage, creating a fresh, intimate energy.
Scanning the crowd, Lewis spots a sign reading, “Let me sneak into your hotel tonight,” sparking chaos. He spends a few minutes signing shirts, locking eyes with fans, and making the moment personal. Then, security scrambles as he runs up the lawn to greet the crowd, teetering on the edge of a gentle frenzy fuelled by the audience’s love for him.
“Hurtless,” which Lewis describes as a sequel to “Be Alright,” follows. The crowd’s phones light up like a constellation, swaying in unison with the beat. The song’s raw honesty hits deep, with fans singing every word. It’s a moment of collective emotional release, the music pulling everyone together in powerful connection.
Lewis takes a moment to thank the crowd, describing the night as “unreal.” He then performs “Stay Awake,” which starts mellow before the tempo picks up, prompting the audience to clap and sing along. The energy remains high as he shares the backstory of “With You”: “I thought this was the best song on my album, but then Rihanna called. She wanted it as her next single. A few months later, it came back to me, and I’m excited to share it with you tonight.” The performance leaves fans wiping away tears.
The energy peaks when Lewis invites a fan on stage, handing her one of the band’s guitars. He encourages her to strum along with the performance. After a few attempts, when she finally strums in key, he continues with the song. As the song wraps up, he surprises her by telling her she can keep the guitar, leaving her visibly shocked and delighted.
“Half a Man” follows, drawing the audience deeper into the emotional flow of the night. Then comes “Rest,” a duet with violinist Jemma McCullagh that turns into a moment of raw vulnerability.
When the wildly popular “Waves” begins, the crowd roars, and Lewis shouts, “Let’s f***ing go, Perth!” The song builds to a climax with wave-crashing sound effects and synchronised lights. Lewis runs through the aisle, engaging with fans in a way that feels more like a celebration than a concert.
Lewis returns for a stripped-back, soulful rendition of Coldplay’s “Fix You,” joined by Sam McGovern and Daniel Seavey. The intimate cover deepens the emotional connection, making the performance feel personal to everyone present.
Finally, Lewis dedicates “How Do I Say Goodbye” to a fan’s late young daughter in the front row. The audience embraces the moment, lifting the energy in celebration of a life remembered.
For the encore, Lewis bolts offstage, only to return moments later to chants of “One more song!” He thanks the team and the audience before closing with his biggest hit, “Be Alright.” Tossing guitar picks into the crowd, he says, “Thank you for having us. I love Perth—I’m buying a house here. I’m home. See you next time.” The night ends on a high, with the energy lingering long after the final notes fade.
