Live Review: The Cancelled Podcast – International Disaster in Perth Australia

22nd July 2025, The Regal Theatre Subiaco, Perth, Western Australia

Review by Sheldon Ang

This writer may not be the target audience to judge the wholesomeness of the show, but the review can be based on the sweeping euphoria from the rambunctious fans. It was as if 1,074 plus 3 besties gathered for 90 minutes of unbridled shenanigans and no-holds-barred celebrity gossip.

I had the honour of receiving an invitation from Frontier Touring to The Cancelled Podcast live show, hosted by social media juggernaut Tana Mongeau and her sidekick, Brooke Schofield. As a Gen X male, I admittedly knew little about the two before entering the venue, but I was curious about the format. Moreover, the tour has been a resounding success, with tickets sold out across all Australian cities with multiple shows, except in Adelaide.

It may have been a cold, wet winter night, but excitement bloomed as we made our way from Subi Hotel to the Regal Theatre in Perth – the penultimate city to host the international edition.

At 8:15, a countdown appeared on the big screen. The dreamers – mostly teenage girls – were maniacally drenched in hype after seeing their favourite podcasters on video, sparking anticipation with an Australian theme. The roar sounded as if Taylor Swift was about to hit the stage as the digital clock ticked down to 00:00; in all honesty, the screams for influencers shattered my expectations

A minute later, the protagonists – the blonde bombshell Tana Mongeau, and her brunette co-host Brooke Schofield graced the stage before settling onto their respective couches. The fanfare peaked above 100 decibels, this time as if Taylor had just completed the bridge to “Cruel Summer.” Flanked by two bodyguards (perhaps serving as props), the smiles on Tana and Brooke were genuine – in awe of Perth’s embrace and perhaps reflecting on the critical and financial success of their podcast and social media fanbase empire.

The local banter began immediately; they pointed out their shows had sold out across Australia except in Adelaide (cue eye rolls). The Perth fans jeered playfully.

It was evident The Cancelled Podcast have a cult like fan base. Every other dialogue sparked cheers and maniacal screams, as if Tana and Brooke had just performed a synchronised triple backflip somersault, or delivered punchlines at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. Whether it was tales of Tana’s sexual escapades with eight men in a week or the images projected on the big screen (occasionally peppered with F and C bombs), the crowd was cheering.

The Cancelled Podcast show unfolds in four segments: The Victims, Brooke’s Story, Paige Cemerlin, and Audience Engagement. These aren’t the official chapter titles, but you get the idea.

To fully appreciate the first segment, it helps to be part of their community, or the pop culture among the young and the restless (not the soapie). Ooohs and aaahs echoed with every name, verb and gossip. “Victim #1” was Tana’s ex, photographer and videographer Hunter Moreno, followed by YouTube sensation Jake Paul (who allegedly defeated Mike Tyson in an exhibition match) whom she was “married” to although it was fake, and Chris Miles whom she dated on and off. Fans requested photos, which were displayed onscreen followed by more ooohs and aaahs. Themes occasionally veered into MA+ territory, including drug use and oral sex. The crowd kept chanting with laughter and applause.

Up to this point, Tana led the conversation with Brooke chiming in as support. In the next part, Brooke took centre stage, sharing her “boring” college sorority days as a nursing student before finding her newfound fame through social media, with the perks of dating the likes of pop sensation and former Perth resident Clinton Kane, who slipped into her DM. She also mentioned that Chris Brown also slipped into her DM, but fate intervened when she got into a car accident en route. Not all bad, it seemed, as Brooke realised she was safer being in the accident than at that party. The crowd applauded. There was a positive message, that fate can sometimes shape our destiny.

The journey also touched on the contrast between fake and reality in the Instagram world. “Before and after” images of themselves flashed on the screen – from realistic portraits to exaggerated hourglass figures that would allegedly require “two ribs to be removed.” The message? Young fans should be wary of the illusions of superficiality. “No bees were harmed in this photo,” they joked, showing off their collagen-swollen lips in the photos —self-deprecating commentary on the fakeness rampant on social media.

Then came Paige Cemerlin, who gate-crashed the set, clarifying whether she had slept with her boss, Tana. Photos of them wasted after shots of gin, vodka, or whatever they were on. The fans laughed.

The final segment was about audience interaction. Tana read out questions submitted by fans, covering topics from foot fetishes to prison romance.

The Cancelled Podcast show is packed with spirited shenanigans; a tale of two women who have rejected traditional routes and found success by mastering the art of conversation and influence, taking their audience to a world of guilty pleasure and gossips – the addictive combination in the world of pop culture. It also delivers an important message: reality is often eclipsed by fakeness – a social faux pas that unhealthily seeps into the consciousness of youth. It seems everyone is susceptible to vulnerability, where cancellation is just around the corner.

The idea of podcast stars telling their stories live to a sellout rambunctious audience had never crossed my mind, but it takes a rare talent like Tana and Brooke to speak with unfettered swagger while sustaining a strong connection with the audience. And for that alone, it was worth the ticket.
