Echolily’s previous releases have revealed the broad scope of her musical palette, all within the indie-pop context. However, the Melbourne-based artist’s technology-based output is always seasoned with a more organic, in some cases raw vocal approach, subsequently imbuing her music with an alluring balance, whether the melodic lines are immediate or not.

On Cate, Echolily’s fifth single release, these features are aligned with a few new attributes; a straight EDM groove underscores a more pop-centric melodic design and, perhaps most obviously, a lyric that takes its cues directly and more persuasively from a narrative that has a potency for its personal as well as translatable power. As Echolily has said about the latest track, ‘The idea for Cate came about randomly while watching the Tokyo Olympics 2021. I saw a female athlete leading her team with so much fire in her eyes. It brought back memories of when I used to play sports in school. All these memories together led to the idea for a dance-synth-pop project titled Cate.

Essentially, Cate is a story about a strong female leader who can achieve anything she wants and leads the way for other women to do the same. Women in sports are rarely as celebrated as their male counterparts; I hope Cate would be a theme song for women to dance their way into their athletic dreams.’ Echolily’s previous tracks, such as Under the Clocks (Stay), Higher, and Mind Spin, have garnered a lot of healthy attention and have helped establish a fertile follower base.

This latest release will undoubtedly generate the same level of support Echolily received from several radio networks, including commercial radio stations in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and outlets such as SBS Chill, Flow FM, ABC Radio, and Super Radio Network. The radio attention has helped Echolily rack up some decent stats in the past two years, including more than 500,000 streams across all platforms.
