Single Review: Making it Easy by Jake Murdoch

By Drummer Vince Leigh (Pseudo Echo, John Farnham, Tina Arena) of Australian Radio Promotion for Sheldon Ang Media

Australian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jake Murdoch has released his second single, Making It Easy, following 2016’s hit Free Spirited Baby.

Co-written by Max Jackson (winner of Australia’s most prestigious country music competition, Toyota Star Maker) and featuring Russell ‘Rusty’ Smith (didgeridoo), Jake’s latest song is a shining example of country pop-rock at its finest. Making It Easy, which was recorded at The Recording Room with Scott Whatman, is perfect for a singalong due to its simple, universal lyrics, strong performances, and catchy chorus hook.

Making It Easy is a seamless fusion of country and pop-rock, and Jake’s vocals are as natural as they’ve ever been. The song’s upbeat tempo and general mood of happiness further support the lyric’s central argument. Jake says this about the new song, ‘This song is about how everyone is always rushing around in life and how we just need to take a break sometimes and take it easy. The message is also about not wasting so much time worrying about stuff which you can’t control and instead focus on spending quality time with our family and friends and having a healthy mental mindset.’ Jake has been nominated for the 7 News Young Achiever award and has won several awards in his own right.

In addition to the QMusic/Queensland Music Award, he has won the Tamworth Songwriting Award, the International Songwriting Competition Award, the Capital Country Music Association Award, and the World Songwriting Award. He has also worked with Tania Kernaghan, Max Jackson, Robbie James, Asabi Goodman, and Vicky O’Keefe, among many others, and been honoured at festivals and talent shows for his efforts. Jake has also been in the studio with Andrew Farriss, writing new music for an upcoming track. Jake has an extensive vocal range and can sing in a number of languages, including Japanese and Spanish. Making It Easy has all the makings of becoming yet another massive radio and streaming smash, thanks in large part to the music video and Jake’s ascending star status as a musician.
