Vince Leigh’s Single Review: Get Down, Right Now by Dinley Jones
By Vince Leigh (Ex drummer of Pseudo Echo, Tina Arena and John Farnham) of Australian Radio Promotion for Sheldon Ang Media
With a string of single releases since 2019, the multifaceted Dinley Jones’s new track, Get Down, Right Now, is sure to solidify his fanbase and attract some decent playlist and radio attention. Kickstarting his musical career at the tender age of 13 in musical theatre, Dinley Jones used this incubating space to develop his various skills.
Dinley’s new track is a slick adoption of contemporary sound and style. The vocal performance is self-assured and convincing, gliding over a neat blend of R&B, pop, and dance genres. Dinley Jones’s talents go beyond the musical; with a solid background in multimedia, he’s hands-on in every aspect of his work, from directing to design. Dinley’s latest tracks have already racked up tens of thousands of streams, and his music video for Get Down, Right Now has even earned nominations for ‘Best Music Video’ and ‘Best Director’ at the 2023 Los Angeles International Music Video Festival.
Add to this a knack for choreography and a directorial eye for visual storytelling, and what emerges is an artist who views his projects less as isolated outputs and more as part of an entire design. As Dinley says about the new track, ‘The song is about dancing! Encapsulating the energy and fun that you would have at the club or a house party. To make you want to grab your partner, pulling them close and feel good! It’s dark, and light. With an urgency in the air.’ The outcome is a textured EDM soundscape imbued with the expected twists and turns that refer to the past while utilizing current sonic embellishments.
The song is not without its hooks, as it veers from soulful melodic lines in the verses to the sure-fire pop inventions that constitute the chorus, the chorus itself divided into two distinct blocks of memorable and accessible note choices. Get Down, Right Now, sounds like the recipe for a hit and as Dinley explains, this bodes well for his ambitions, ‘I’m hoping to reach a wider audience, to make a worldwide connection. Work with incredible and talented artists and musicians and create music for the people. I love to create and perform. To share that passion with the world would be a dream come true.
