Vince Leigh’s Single Review: It’s My Life by Lihini Rose & Sean Kingston

Review by Vince Leigh, Ex Drummer of Pseudo Echo, John Farnham and Tina Arena

Emerging Australian music artist Lihini Rose is also considered one of Australia’s most accomplished Afrobeats choreographers, venturing independently in 2021 with her debut release, BTW. Since then, her previous releases have attracted a sizeable following worldwide, including in Brazil, the United Kingdom, and the United States. In addition, several of her dance videos have been viewed millions of times online, giving her the opportunity to choreograph for notable performers like Wizkid, Juls, and A-star.

Her new release, It’s My Life, continues her explorations in pure pop and features American-Jamaican singer and rapper Sean Kingston, best known for his track Beautiful Girl. As Lihini tells us about It’s My Life, ‘The song was written prior to covid and was meant to be released a lot earlier. The vibe of the song  became strong after lockdowns, being about having the right to party and freedom instead of working, the ability to party and enjoy a party life!  Benjaminenrico came up with the idea of having Sean Kingston feature while he was touring Australia, giving the song more flava.

After countless hours in the studio with the Banton Bros, the song is now ready to hit the stations nationally!’ It’s My Life will undoubtedly find a home on radio and online; its hooks sound familiar, but that’s perhaps where its strength lies. When asked about her plans, Lihini says, ‘I plan to release several more bangin’ singles with Benjaminenrico for the next few releases. Tracks you can bop to that are a party vibe.’ It’s My Life indeed contains a celebratory air; it’s all about good times and unapologetic liberation. As Lihini says about what’s behind her music, ‘What I put into my music is raw and genuine, it’s myself. My purpose is always to make the listener feel an empowering emotion, that’s what they will remember in my music. My expression in music videos and performances having the background as a dancer is definitely something that I think makes me stand out.’
