Ceeko Drops Unintentional Stoner Anthem ‘Contact High’, Announces Forthcoming Sophomore EP

In a society where people are increasingly divided by their differences, Ceeko calls for love and acceptance on his lighthearted new soul track ‘Contact High’, an unintentional stoner anthem that comes as the first single off his forthcoming sophomore EP ‘The Juice’.

While Ceeko’s stance throughout the track is that he doesn’t like to smoke, he makes a point in being unbothered by his friends doing so. The track recounts the times where Ceeko has walked into the studio and is immediately greeted by the overwhelming smell of weed, eventually succumbing to the fumes as he puts it in the line “And if the wind blows that shit my way, what you ‘gon do, well I guess I gotta breathe damn”.

On how the track came together, Ceeko says, “I cut the demo at home playing all the instruments myself and it was already a vibe. I was then lucky enough to share it with a long time muso friend Ivan, and from there we chopped away with my band members Jesse, Adrian and Mickey and the song just took off! Having live elements and grooves with a modern approach to the songwriting allowed us to land on such a creatively free sound.”

Co-produced by Ivan Choi, ‘Contact High’s’ greatness lies in the blend between invigorating instrumentation and lyrics that reveal Ceeko’s internal dialogue and carefree spirit. Infusing soul with enough funk to get people moving, the track’s simple hook of “inhale, blowout” is an irresistible vibe that allows the track to be easily enjoyable with its heart in the right place. While most of Ceeko’s catalogue consists of moody R&B and heartbreak anthems, ‘Contact High’ is a refreshing change that encompasses Ceeko’s sonic journey since the release of his highly acclaimed debut EP ‘Where Do We Begin’ [2020].

On what has shaped his sound, Ceeko says, “My sound is a culmination of my life experiences. I feel like I could never truly answer this in the right way until very recently. I was born and raised in South Africa until I was 13 and then moved all the way to Australia, so I’ve always kind of had one foot in each culture. I think from that experience, I have a sound that is a result of such a diverse life and polar opposite ways of living. So my sound is kind of a melting pot of all this. I found a way to forge the pieces together.”

Ceeko is a Melbourne-based singer/producer/songwriter with silky smooth vocals reminiscent of R&B artists from the 90’s/2000’s golden era with a distinct modern twist. Never afraid to show his diversity in both style and delivery, Ceeko draws inspiration from his roots, combining afro-beat rhythms, melodies and spirit with a touch of soul.

Stay tuned to hear more of Ceeko’s music as he gears up to release his sophomore EP ‘The Juice’, while also making his debut as an actor in the cast of ‘bare’ the musical, set to hit the stage this June.
