Striding into her own as a storyteller, Naarm based Australian songwriter Tig invites you into her innermost thoughts and feelings with ‘Too Late Heartbreak’, an introduction to her songwriting and her debut music release via AWAL on Wednesday 27 September. With an introspective alt-pop collection, anchored by a disarming authenticity, ‘Too Late Heartbreak’ introduces the first taste of her forthcoming EP Inside Voices set for release on Thursday 1 February 2024.
Keen to develop the sound of her first collection in an organic and unfiltered way, Tig wrote and recorded all songs on the upcoming EP herself from her home in Naarm/Melbourne before collaborating with Jono Steer (Angie McMahon, Leif Vollebekk) who co-produced and mixed the EP at Dare Studios. With the upcoming EP also featuring arrangements by Ainslie Wills and Holly Thomas (Quivers, Husky), this debut is sure to send a shiver up your spine.
Having already sold out her first headline show at Collingwood’s The Gasometer Hotel (Upstairs) earlier in the year, Tig is finally ready to reveal her first recordings to the world.
“This song is about catastrophising. Building walls. Trying not to get hurt. Confusing isolation with independence. Lying to yourself. And realising some feelings just have to be felt.” – Tig
With songs that paint a million moments of self discovery, Tig wanders through the paradoxical nature of protecting your heart in ‘Too Late Heartbreak’; a picture of vulnerability, coloured with poignant details, and hesitant undertones. Written and recorded by Tig at home, co-produced and mixed by Jono Steer at Dare Studios, the ‘Too Late Heartbreak’ debut is accompanied by a visual created alongside high school friend Jasper Dorman, a literal exploration of the lyrics through ‘Heartbreak Prevention Plans’ and lego houses. “The idea started with these tiny felt hearts that my mum makes, you keep them in your pocket when you need a bit of love. As the crux of the song is about keeping your heart intact, I asked myself ‘how would I protect one of these pocket hearts if it was prone to breaking?’ And so the lego house was born, followed by the Heartbreak Prevention Plan”, says Tig.

‘Tig’s clear narrative direction and my ability to assume a variety of filmmaking roles provided a solid foundation for the creative process. In the span of a single day of filming, we managed to capture a compact and endearing story. Our creative collaboration enabled the song’s heartfelt lyrics to flourish and visually resonate.’ – Jasper Dorman, Director
No stranger to big stages, Tig has supported artists across venues including The Triffid (QLD), Miami Marketta (QLD) and Fed Square’s (VIC) main stage. She has recorded backing vocals for the Pierce Brothers, and supported them on tours interstate, as well as being invited to perform as part of Kim Churchill’s 2022 Picnic in the Paddock lineup, then later supporting his ‘Dawn Sounds Tour’ in the early months of 2023. And, if that wasn’t enough Tig was selected for the Australian Independent Record Labels Association’s (AIR) Women in Music Mentoring Program 2023 receiving mentoring from renowned Australian songwriter Ainslie Wills.
Lean into the new world of Tig, her journey of letting go and lessons of love.

‘Too Late Heartbreak’ Lyrics
I was gonna come over to your house today
Pick up where we left off
Our last conversation
I’ve been resisting the temptation
Instead I lay here with my back against the mattress
Developing a fixation with my ceiling
It helps me avoid how I’m feeling
I know that it’s hard to be
Patient with all that I’m
Putting you through
I don’t want to like you but I do
Left it too late
To not end in heartbreak
Risk all that we knew
I don’t want to like you but I do
Your friends are probably wondering
What I’m doing to your head
Mine keep asking me why I’m not in my bed
I tell them I was working late
And I got up earlier than them
I know they disapprove
But I’m still getting used
To the idea of spending more than just the night
Letting somebody like you near
I’m trying, I’m trying
I’m trying to disregard my fears
I know that it’s hard to be
Patient with all that I’m
Putting you through
I don’t want to like you but I do
Left it too late
To not end in heartbreak
Risk all that we knew
I don’t want to like you but I do
I don’t want to like you but
The walls reflecting misguided intentions
I get less content with
Building this hypocrisy
My independent captivity
I know that it’s hard to be
Patient with all that I’m
Putting you through
I don’t want to like you but I do
It’s too late
To not end in heartbreak
Risk all that we knew
I don’t want to like you but I do
And I can’t stop thinking about you
I don’t want to like you but I do
And I can’t stop thinking about you
I don’t want to like you but I do
