Indie singer songwriter Katie Wighton has unveiled her sassy, challenging new single and video, Narcissist, whilst sharing the exciting news that her debut solo album The End, will be released on June 2 via ABC Music.

Themuch-lovedvocalist/guitarist from the ARIA Award-winning group All Our Exes Live in Texas chose to release feminist anthem Narcissist in line with International Women’s Day, the song exploring the way women are held to different standards than men.

Katie explains, “This song has a few meanings. It started out being a rant about how women are always held to different standards to men (I could wax lyrical about this for eons haha). It then turned into a rant about this male musician I dated for a SECOND who was a total narcissist. After we stopped seeing each other the only time he would text me was about his single releases or to get a contact for someone… That’s what the line “Take me off your mailing list” is about. UNSUBSCRIBE!

The music video was inspired by Cynthia Nixon’s ‘Be A Lady They Said’ clip, made by Rick Clifford, with TV footage created by Gina Somfleth with assistance from Guy Perkins and Gina Somfleth. TVs by Jordi Edwards.

Katie will be launching Narcissist with 2 exclusive shows:

22nd April – The Lighthouse Collective, Point Lonsdale – Tickets HERE

27th April – Shotkickers, Melbourne – Tickets HERE

Album The End, also featuring Katie’s 2022 single Take You Home, will be released on June 2 and is available to pre-order now.

Katie says, “I made this record because, like everyone on the planet, I feel like I have something to say. But unlike everyone on the planet, I am privileged enough to have the means and skills and time to use music to express it. Songwriting is my medium and I am head over heels, madly in love with it. From the kernel of an idea to the final finished song, I love every second of the songwriting process.

“Each song is a snapshot, a memory, a moment.  This record is a series of endings – some temporary, some permanent. And now having summarised my joy and pain and grief and frustration into a neat little blurb….

The End.”
