Nina Leo Releases New Single ‘Blind Spot’ and Announces Naarm (Melbourne) Show.
“Nina arrives with a furious gale at her back and yet she always seems in control of the rocky noise.” – Dave Ruby Howe (Triple J Unearthed)
“Her voice and guitars are filled with emotion, the lyrics embodying strength and courage.” – The AU Review
Diving headfirst into Naarm’s music scene, Ngambri (Canberra) grown songwriter and musician Nina Leo is releasing her newest single ‘Blind Spot’, out Thursday 1 August. With a nom de plume born from her middle name and star sign, Nina Leo invites you to open the door into her world of femme rock ‘n’ roll with ‘Blind Spot’, her first new music for 2024. In celebration of the release Nina, equipped with her gritty guitar and band, will be taking over The Retreat for their first Naarm headline on Thursday 15 August.
Recorded at Infidel Studios NSW, ‘Blind Spot’ was produced and mixed by Louis Montgomery (SAFIA, Lucy Sugerman, Young Monks) and mastered by Tahlia-Rose Coleman (Perry Street Park, Damaged Goods Club). Running with the feeling of losing control over a situation and yourself, Nina Leo drew instrumental inspiration from the slow drags and heavy builds of artists like Wolf Alice, lyrically delving into her internal transformation of hurt to power and self-improvement. ‘I always write songs based on real-life experiences. It feels natural for me to incorporate music with how I’m feeling. It’s how I process and heal from everything. The best therapy I could ever ask for’ – Nina Leo

The single’s accompanying video was directed by cinematographer Anthony Bowler, taking you on a journey inside three different universes, and the visual manifestation of ‘when one door closes, another one opens’. Each one is a different stage of healing, from the depths of the turmoil to the present, portrayed through a disrupted narrative to express the nonlinear but possible nature of it all.
‘Taking inspiration from old grunge clips from the 00’s and also referencing current pop culture, Blind Spot is a journey of being stuck in parallels and having the courage to step out of the lines to create a new path.’ – Anthony Bowler, Director
Self-raised on an endless string of classic rock icons; Nina Leo’s project melds her love of rock ‘n’ roll with her indie folk musical musings, finding the hidden possibilities of alternate guitar tunings. Bursting out of Canberra’s music scene, the local favourite has supported local and interstate bands including Carla Geneve, Moaning Lisa, DUST, The Terrys, Bones and Jones, and more, with community radio love from her hometown station of 2XXFM, RTRFM, and support across triple j unearthed.
Nina Leo invites you into her inner most thoughts via ‘Blind Spot’. Don’t miss your opportunity to see her live at The Retreat this August.

‘Blind Spot’ Lyrics:
If I was the sun, I’d shine all my light on you
I’ll try my best to make it comfortable for you
Ignore the glare, I was wanting to give you my all
Feel like a burden when you make sure
I’m not in your blind spot
Do you feel it
Do you feel it
On you
If I was the moon, I’d guide you home at night
I’d hide in plain sight
So you don’t see my imperfections
I’ll close my eyes and imagine i’m not here
Could I be your perfection
Did you see it
Do you feel it
Do you feel it
On youIf I could change, I swear I would
But we both know, you never could
If I could change, I swear I would
But I would change for me and not you
