What is OFFBEAT

Offbeat is a Parkinson’ Disease FUNdraising and Awareness Rock Concert. Our aim is for “Offbeat” to be an annual event to raise awareness for Parkinson’s Disease and funds for research for better treatments, to improve the quality of life for PD sufferers and hopefully, find a cure. Parkinson’s Disease is the second most common neurological disease in Australia, second to Dementia, which approximately 70% of PD sufferers will develop a form of. In 2014, the prevalence of Parkinson’s was higher than many cancers including breast cancer, colorectal, stomach, liver and pancreatic cancer, lymphoma and leukaemia, kidney and bladder, uterine, cervical, and ovarian, and lung cancer. The disease affects approx. 10 million people worldwide, 150,000 in Australia. 38 Aussies are diagnosed every day. 8 will be under the age of 50 and 4 will be under 40 In 2018, those numbers had increased by 17% in the previous 6 years. Given these statistics, funding, awareness, understanding and support for PD is shockingly low. It can no longer be viewed as an “old persons” disease and treatments need to evolve to accommodate younger sufferers, while the search for a cure continues. Watching live music, can be such a powerful and emotive experience. By creating a platform through Renegade Events, we aim to raise funds for PD research, increase public understanding of the condition, and foster a more supportive and tolerant environment for PD sufferers.

About Renegate Events Hannah Moltoni, Creative Director

“Introducing the visionary behind the newest and one of the most exciting music events companies in Perth. Hannah is a true music lover with a passion for creating unforgettable moments and amazing experiences. With her talent, vision, and dedication, she is poised to become one of the most exciting and innovative event producers in the industry.” Renegade Events is dedicated to bringing the best of the rock music scene to Perth and promoting our homegrown talent, while raising awareness and funds for Parkinson’s Disease research. There’s a big hole in the rock music scene in Perth and there’s a lot of opportunity here to really give local artists a platform to shine. But there is more to Renegade Events. Both Hannah’s brother and father suffer from PD, and she’s witnessed the devastating effects it has on their lives. Her brother, diagnosed with young onset PD at 29, experienced a rapid decline in his physical abilities and mental well-being. He underwent brain surgery to alleviate some of his symptoms, but every moment for him remains challenging. She’s also seen her father’s journey with PD, with his condition progressing slower but still causing constant tremors and other symptoms. This inspired her to organize a concert to raise awareness and funds for PD research. The medications available for PD come with alarming side effects, and it’s crucial to support ongoing research for better treatments and a potential cure. “Through my events, I want to bring back the joy of music festivals and provide opportunities for local artists while also making a positive impact on the lives of those affected by Parkinson’s Disease.

Dad as a drummer in his early days

“We need to change the face of Parkinson’s Disease from an elderly man with a shaky hand. It’s a 30 year old losing the ability to walk. A 40 year old with young kids he can’t play with. A 50 year old that gets aspiration pneumonia and dies because he can’t swallow. Your brother, your cousin, your friend. It’s scarily common and not restricted by age. But the point of the concert is to raise awareness, not depress people! And, of course, to support and promote local rock music. It’s going to be a lot of fun! I’m so pumped about the bands I’ve got lined up, they’re fantastic!” – Hannah Moltoni
