Single Review: Ghost Lover by Emme Lentino

By drummer Vince Leigh (Pseudo Echo, John Farnham , Tina Arena)

The new single release for Australian singer-songwriter Emme Lentino is Ghost Lover, a big contemporary pop track that involves a relationship haunted by the past. The new one follows the success of her previous songs, Dive and Shake It Off, which generated plays on MOOD MEDIA, FLOW FM NETWORK, GRANT BROADCASTERS, 3AW, ABC LOCAL, ABC COUNTRY, KIX COUNTRY NETWORK, MTV / CMT, and many more.

Ghost Lover was recorded at the NightBird Studios in Los Angeles. It features the talents of Ric’key Pageot (Madonna, Cher, Diana Ross), Nick Gaffaney (Cairo Knife Fight) on backing vocals and drums and was produced by multi-instrumentalist and composer Dan Antunovich (Kitaro). A thorough and heartfelt study of a relationship laced with fear and concern is set against an arresting musical backdrop, which utilises various components from contemporary pop.

The lyric is ostensibly about a haunting, one that seems destined to be destructive. Yet, via Emme’s candid, almost confessional tone, there also exists an alternate result; the ghost of the past is finally let go, and closeness is regained, as is implied by these lines, ‘She breathes you in and takes you by the hand away from me / To a place inside your heart that’s nearly out of reach.’ When asked about the track, Emme says, ‘I was inspired by hanging out at the Sunset Marquis and its iconic rock history and suffering from insomnia.

Sleepless nights and spooky frights definitely ignited my creative spirit. I remember sitting down at the piano, half asleep, words and melody just danced on the keys. It was a very unique songwriting experience. Recording with amazing musicians who brought the music in my head to full life was a true dream come true.’ The new release will likely gain airplay on major radio stations and generate impressive streaming figures, both of which will enhance the growth of Emme Lentino’s profile.
