Tanaya Harper New Single ‘Night Terrors’ Out Today From Forthcoming Debut Album
‘Tanaya Harper is as much at home with jangly, uncluttered, delicious indie-pop as she is with moody, melancholic ballads with an incredibly emotional core’ – Women in Pop
‘Harper’s exquisitely delicate vocals that ache with emotion’ – Backseat Mafia
Boorloo indie ethereal angel Tanaya Harper weaves her silken melodies drenched with strings sharing her messages of self discovery in her latest single ‘Night Terrors’, out Wednesday 1 May. Whether you’ve seen her performances in beloved indie-rock band Bells Rapids with Stella Donnelly, as a member of Ghost Care, or as the bass player for Paige Valentine, Tanaya Harper’s solo work has solidified her as a leading lady of Perth’s original music scene, with an insightful lyricism that resonates with audiences through her experiences of depression, anxiety, and living with bipolar disorder. At the end of 2023, Tanaya released ‘Remnants’, encompassing a new sonic direction for the project and following on ‘Night Terrors’ revealing a taste of what’s to come from her debut long play due for release in the second half of 2024. Collaborating with composer and orchestral arranger Jared Yapp, Tanaya has created a story with a world of strings to delve into deep disconnection and ‘the sheer power of how the ego can trick us into thinking we’re in control when in reality, we are just scared and drifting further away from ourselves’ – Tanaya Harper. Produced and mixed by local engineer Andrew Lawson from Debaser (The Buoys, Riley Pearce, Death by Denim) and mastered by Ruairi O’Flaherty at Nomograph Mastering (Lana Del Rey, Paramore, Middle Kids, St Vincent) in LA, ‘Night Terrors’ encapsulates internal balance of clarity and chaos, Tanaya’s vocals paired with understated guitar and subtle horn lines. ‘I was making decisions that clearly weren’t in alignment with my needs and wants, and yet somehow I was still forging ahead, silencing my inner voice and letting my fears and ego run the show in romantic relationships.’ – Tanaya Harper
‘Night Terrors’ is out Wednesday 1 May via MGM
