The Amity Affliction release redux version of ‘Let The Ocean Take Me’ Ahead of Australian Tour
Legendary metalcore outfit The Amity Affliction have today released ‘Let The Ocean Take Me’ (Redux), giving fans an updated version of their 2014 album.
‘Let The Ocean Take Me’ was a breakthrough moment for the band, opening them up to a growing international audience, and pushing their sound forward as they found themselves becoming one of Australia’s premiere alternative acts. The album debuted at number 1 on the ARIA charts (the band’s second consecutive album to do so, following 2012’s ‘Chasing Ghosts’), reached number 31 on the Billboard 200 in the US, and is certified platinum in Australia.
Featuring singles such as ‘Pittsburgh’, ‘Don’t Lean On Me’ and ‘The Weigh Down’, ‘Let The Ocean Take Me (Redux)’ elevates the unrelenting energy found on the 2014 album to new heights; every riff, breakdown and chorus hitting harder than ever. During the recording process, frontman Joel Birch was forced to face the heavy themes found on the record once again – reflecting on all of the highs and lows since the original release.
“The album is almost entirely dedicated to addiction and the effects it had on my life and mental health; the strangest thing while rerecording this was reading the words and then reflecting on life since then, this album was the catalyst for us touring the world and turning what was just a really fun time into a career, from kids to adults, from haphazardly throwing together songs to the place where we’re at now where we feel like we put more purpose into everything we create. I started drinking again almost immediately after this album was finished and almost blew up everything I held dear, so the album is a warning of sorts, for myself and for anyone else out there struggling with addiction. I should have been able to read what I wrote and perform these songs and have it reinforce the very thing I had written about, but addiction is a soul crusher and just swallowed me up and spat me out.” JOEL BIRCH, THE AMITY AFFLICTION
The re-release comes after the band’s exit from their previous label, whom they worked with from 2012’s ‘Chasing Ghosts’ up until 2018’s ‘Misery’. ‘Let The Ocean Take Me (Redux)’ is the band’s chance to take back ownership of their art, and move on from a difficult situation that has weighed immensely on the band in recent years.
The re-release was produced by the bands very own Daniel Brown, with mixing and mastering by Henrik Udd (Architects, Bring Me The Horizon, Dayseekeris) who also worked on the bands 2023 album ‘Not Without My Ghosts’. The band hope the slick, modern update will resonate with their passionate fanbase – one they would like to thank for the endless support they’ve given over the years.
“We wouldn’t be anywhere near where we are today without this album and the way it resonated with people around the world. This is the foundation of our band, and we owe everything we have to all of the people who listened to it and came out to our shows and continues to this day to show their love to us, this is the greatest blessing, thank you.” JOEL BIRCH, THE AMITY AFFLICTION
The band have achieved some incredible feats over their career, with endless accolades and touring highlights. The band have been nominated for Best Hard Rock or Heavy Metal Album at the ARIAS 6 times over their career, and have sold out endless shows across the country and abroad. Following the release of ‘Let The Ocean Take Me’ back in 2014, the band embarked on the Big Ass Tour with fellow metalcore heavyweights A Day To Remember – playing to 60,000 fans across the country. The Amity Affliction currently have over 100m+ streams across DSPs, with 1m monthly listeners on Spotify and 411k subscribers on Youtube.
Coming off a huge European tour, which included appearances at the legendary Wacken festival (Germany) and Reading & Festival (UK) in August, the band have announced some special shows back on home soil.
The Amity Affliction are currently booked as headliners for the Big Pineapple Festival in Woombye, Queensland – with a lineup that includes the likes of Bliss N Eso, Golden Features and Peking Duk, set for the 19th of October this year. Following this, Australian fans will be able to catch the album in full this November, as they make their way across stages in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth with support from Ice Nine Kills, We Came As Romans and Heavensgate.

PRAISE
“A more accessible sound than many of their counterparts in the metal scene, Let the Ocean Take Me flaunts The Amity Afflictions’ distinctive combination of pop and hardcore. Catchy, melodic, clean-vocals of Ahren Stringer, partnered with poppy keys, contrast with the screaming vocals of Birch and abounding kick-drums, crashing symbols, and heavy guitar riffs. This fourth studio album champions the development of the band’s songwriting skills, resulting in arguably their most accomplished record.”
(#195 on 200 Greatest Australian Albums of All Time)
ROLLING STONE AUSTRALIA
“Let The Ocean Take Me makes great strides in keeping one foot in the metalcore pool while doing a multi-directional genre dance with the other—sort of like a new-school hokey-pokey for those who would sport full sleeves and spacers”
ALTERNATIVE PRESS
“Strap in and listen closely as Amity Affliction are ready to take you on a musical journey with their fourth studio album, ‘Let the Ocean Take Me.’ The record is quite possibly the band’s most honest and personal album to date..”
