Vince Leigh’s Single Review: Mine By Castle Hughes
Vince Leigh is the former drummer of Pseudo Echo, John Farnham and Tina Arena
In the heart of the Oz music world, the vibrant voice of emerging Australian singer-songwriter Castle Hughes has once again captured audiences’ attention with her fourth single, Mine. The young, award-winning artist, known for her extraordinary vocal abilities and inspiring lyrics, has struck pure gold with this latest offering.
With Mine, Castle delivers a powerful ballad infused with a sophisticated pop sensibility, creating superb melodic hooks aided by a smooth, brilliant production that uplifts and inspires listeners. As Castle says about the new track, ‘I wrote this song as a homage to first love. I poured so much love and heart into Mine, exploring how it felt when I first felt the stirring of my first love. This song embodies the innocence of first love, the purity and optimism we feel as young people falling in love. I experimented with using well-known childhood rhymes to symbolise the wholesomeness of first love, love without experience of heartbreak or failure.’
The track was produced in collaboration with Simon Groves of Artisan Music. Castle comments on working with Simon on the record, ‘Together we had a vision to create an emotionally beautiful orchestral pop arrangement that stirs and moves the soul.’ Mine is the best kind of big movie soundtrack theme. It takes on board a wide field of inspirational music touchstones and transforms them into a contemporary epic tune that will resonate with many.
At the tender age of sixteen, Castle burst onto the music scene with her debut single, Moving On, which was nominated for the WAM Song of the Year Award in the 14-18-year-old category. And with accolades like the WAM Award for the City of Stirling Best Youth Act 2022 and nominations for the UK Songwriting Contest and the International Songwriting Awards – Teen category, it’s clear that Castle Hughes is a star on the rise.
